Have you ever paused to ask yourself – “What makes me come alive?”
In sessions with clients, we’ve asked similar questions. Our clients answer one of two ways – they either start rattling a list of things like: dancing my ass off, gardening with nothing in my head, painting that no one judges, writing just to spill my guts, travel to…anywhere, and music that makes my heart beat louder.
AND
They say they don’t do it often enough.
OR
They answer with something like: “I don’t know anymore – life is just too hectic.”
In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to get caught up in routines and responsibilities, and let stress rule – making the days and months blur into one another. But finding those moments that spark joy is essential for your well-being. And if the idea of joy is too far from your radar right now because you are in a tough-dark place, maybe ask a simpler question like: “What brings a smile to my face, no matter what?”
However you initially answered the question, we know that creating more joy-moments
1. helps build resilience against stress
2. supports our immune system
3. fosters a more nourishing life experience
And we all want that! – [assuming, as we do, that because you are here on our website, you are interested in your well-being – at least a little bit.]
Life is so damn precious, and it’s happening right now!
It’s not about grand gestures (you don’t have to travel to Greece when a trip to your local bookstore brings you joy); it’s the small, consistent actions that bring us closer to days filled with more zest for life.
If joy/smiling is missing in your life and you want it to be different – ask yourself:
What makes me come alive?
OR
What brings a smile to my face, no matter what?
(please don’t overthink, what’s one thing that pops into your mind?)
Then answer this question:
What is one thing I could do to make this happen?
One small step.
Write it down.
Tell someone.
