Tune into your body and you’ll find it’s always sending you messages – listen up!
Ever had a “gut feeling?”
Or noticed how you clench your jaw when stressed—OR how you get an energy hit after drinking a glass of water you didn’t know you needed?
That’s your body speaking through interoception—your ability to sense what’s going on inside.
Turns out, listening to these inner cues isn’t just helpful—it’s essential. Research shows that people with strong interoceptive awareness tend to have better emotional resilience, lower stress, and improved physical health (resource).
In other words: Your body is one of your best wellness guides.
(not TikTok, your neighbor or your co-worker…)
The good news is that we can train ourselves to get better at hearing the clues.
Here are three simple ways to tune in to your body:
🔹 Body Check-Ins
Pause a few times a day and ask, What’s happening in my body right now?
Tension, hunger, calm, energy? Just notice with no attachment and no judgement.
🔹 Follow Your Breath
Close your eyes for a minute and simply feel your breath.
Where do you notice it most—your belly, chest, or nose? There is absolutely no need to change it—just feel it. (practice with Wendy here)
🔹 Eat Without Multitasking
Put away your phone while eating.
Notice your hunger level, how your food tastes, and how you feel as you eat. This builds trust with your body’s signals.
(Debbie and I, together with one of our groups, is working on this right now – it’s amazing how boring it can be at first – but we promise, it gets easier and you might just be amazed how nice it is once you get past the weirdness).
Tuning in takes just a few moments, but the benefits add up. It’s not about doing it perfectly—it’s about paying attention more often.
In our modern day of continuous inputs, we’ve lost touch and lost trust in ourselves so we encourage you to stay curious!
