The One Thing for One Percent

We are so happy you listened to the podcast and that you are here.

In our efforts to move forward, we often tackle too many things. This chart will help you get laser focused on doing the one thing. Complete the chart by listing what you want to do (+1) or don’t want to do (-1), then pick one and do it. Master that one thing and then move to the next.  Getting crystal clear is super important so we offer these S.M.A.R.T. rules for framework to creating your list. This is not a list of goals, this is a list of action items.

Use the S.M.A.R.T. rules

We appreciate the various ideas outlined by Professor Robert S. Rubin (Saint Louis University) who wrote about SMART in an article for The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. He stated that SMART has come to mean different things to different people, as shown below:

  • Specific (simple, sensible, significant)
  • Measurable (meaningful, motivating)
  • Achievable (agreed, attainable)
  • Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based)
  • Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive

Now that you have gotten laser focused and identified the 10 actionable items, circle the ONE thing you want to focus on today. Master that one thing and then come back and revisit the list.
